Powerball Lottery

The Powerball Lottery is one of the biggest American multi-state lotteries and one of only two multi-state draws running in North America. Originally played in just a few states of America, recently both American lotteries have been opened up to many US states creating what could be the first National Lottery of America.

How to play the Powerball Lottery

To play the Powerball Lottery you need to chose five balls between one and 55 and one Powerball between one and 42. To win the Powerball Lottery jackpot you need to match all five main balls and the single red Powerball.

Jackpots and rollovers

The base jackpot on the Powerball Lottery is set at $20 million, this is the amount you would expect to be up for grabs if the jackpot was won every week. It is rarely at this level however as rollovers are common and big jackpots seen often.

The fact that the Powerball is separate makes the Powerball lottery notoriously difficult to win, with the Powerball coming from a secondary ball pool it divides your already slim chance of winning by another 42. The plus side to this of course is big lottery rollover jackpots and they have been known to be as high as the record Powerball Lottery jackpot of $276 million won by a group of tax collectors back in 2008.

It’s easy to see why the Powerball Lottery is one of the world’s favourite draws, exciting with big bumper jackpots and the chance of some fantastic smaller division prizes mean that there’s always plenty to play for. Powerball Lottery winners come from far and wide and now that the whole of North America is about to be opened up to the Powerball Lottery it is a firm favourite to become the nation’s favourite lottery with even bigger lottery jackpots and a wider target audience.
